Seeking your identity often needs to go outside the safe circle

Let me tell you the ways how I eventually went through an identity crisis that all varsities student usually had after they graduated. But for me, I’m sure about what I want 6 months before I graduated. We can’t deny how universities is where youth were busy trying to excel on their academic record to make a great impression later on for their career search. Without even looking, youth often forget the importance of knowing their true-self and what are they interested about for their future. Maybe an academic record would not be a significant thing for the future, but the people around them would play a bigger role for their future, or vice versa. Hence it is very important for us to seek our identity to avoid wasting our youth trying to do something insignificant for our future.

But surely, the stigma about academic is far important and varsities student shall put all their focus in it to achieve an excelling score never fade away. How can a student be doing all the organisational, social, voluntary events without disregarding the point of excelling their academic score. Yes, not all student has the capability to balance all that, but not all excelling student even understand the importance of having excellent score to begin with.

Does it all worth it for your future if you yet to know your interest?

Hence, exploring the possible opportunity around you with scholarship, events, organization, volunteering, academic writing, and other exposure is a key to identify your interest in the future. Let me tell you my journey.

Freshman

As much I mentioned that academic excellence is not the only thing in college, but it does one of the priorities. Hence, in my first year of college, it is called the adaptation phase. Why? because it is certainly a new thing to pursue a degree, the curriculum were different than High School and the peopel are much diverse. Use the advantage of your first year to adapt and understand how could you excel in college. Later in the end of the year, when you have found the foundation to at least be comfortable with the new lifestyle, make sure to have a planning in taking opportunities in the next term.

Sophomore

Second year is the time where it is justifiable to do things that gives you the most interest. All the things that you imagine for your future figure as wild as you can. It could be diplomats, entrepreneur, even soccer player or athlete. It is important to use this period of time to see the feasibility of your interest to be pursued in the future. But acknowledging that in the third year, it would be a whole different thing to pursue.

Junior

In the third year, you have understand how your wildest interest is working for you in a year and it is indeed could be evaluated in the third year. But importantly, you need to open for opportunities outside your comfort zone. Seeking discomfort is the main word in the third year. It is one of the most crucial timeline in your college life to fully understand what gives you the goosebumps in pursuing new things and knowing what you feel about it. Go outside your safe zone, pursue new things you never thought you would do. For those in who do competitions all the time, take your time to create social impact by creating initiative of voluntary programs to help the enviroment. For those athletes, try to pursue a business case competition to upscale new skills. For those who love to do social works, try to hike a mountain and travel, understand the essence of be yourself. This is one of the crucial step what I believe has made who I’am today of knowing my identity sooner.

Senior

Last year, yes, you evaluate. Of all the things that you have done, what is the one that makes you eager to do it? when evaluating, be sure to be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timed. Be sure that it is what you wanted to pursue right after you graduate. Don’t worry, you have it all, you have all the experience, the degree, the brand, and the characteristic to be open minded and excited with challenges. Isn’t that are the things that all interviewer seek? Well, thank me later.

Make the discomfort of doing to avoid the regret of not knowing.

Now, are you ready to know yourself more?
